At Last..! To celebrate our 100th blog post...
After dozens of festivals spanning two years and many countries, The Last Belle finally comes to YouTube!
Creating this film out of nothing has been something of an adventure: made with no money, countless years of work, no money, old-school technology, still no money, a great deal of love, and the loyalty of many hard-working craftspeople.
Click HERE to watch the whole film. Or via our Web Site where you will find more info. And if you enjoy it please 'like' us, comment, or pass the link on to your friends.

ReplyDeleteThanks Marc! So pleased you like it. If you get a chance, please do leave us a messsage on the YouTube comments too. Every positive review helps get the film seen :-) Thanks so much.
DeleteBeautiful work, Neil ! After following your blog for all this time I've been eager to see this and was not disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI'm hugely relieved! :-) Thanks for your support!
DeleteCongrats guys...I didn't get to watch it on the big screen but this is SUCH A TREAT..Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteI wish more people could have seen it up on a big screen, with big sound too, but what the heck... I'm just pleased so many people can get to see it now online. Thanks for writing!
DeleteI'm sure you've heard it all already, so I'll try to come at this at a different angle - I wasn't fond of the art style when I saw the film's poster. It's just not my thing, and I almost closed the tab. Instead, I played the video, and as soon as the characters started moving...well, you know. Here I am posting this.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of animation is superb. It kept reminding me of what the short cartoon which opened Roger Rabbit did for me...and then I find out you had worked on that.
Your characters inhabit reality so well, and your use of perspective is so exciting. Everything was pitch perfect to make this a sweet and funny short, in which every frame was so obviously carefully cared for. I love animation. I love it more now. Thank you for The Last Belle.
Anonymous, thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I'm really pleased you enjoyed The Last Belle! It was so much fun to make this film... time, I think, to pick up a pencil and begin another... Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts :-)
Deletethats a wonderful short film to say the least!! really loved ! did you also work on Fred Bastard ? Congrats and kind regards!
ReplyDeleteHi Douglas - no I didn't work on Fred Bastard, although I know Uli Meyer (the director) and several of his animators.
DeleteI'm delighted you like The Last Belle - and thanks for sharing your comments! :-)
Hi Neil, I have been waiting to see your film for a long time and I can tell you the wait was worthy it. It's just amazing and beautiful and the animation and scene planning are fantastic. It was very interesting to learn that you guys did with no money funded by an investor and it gave me the motivation I needed so much because I am trying to finish my own short film with no money either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration and please, keep hand drawn animation alive like you have. It's only a few of us these days.
Best.
Well if our film has helped inspire you to keep going on your own project, then I'm thrilled! Keep at it - please! And let me know when you finish because I would love to see it :-) Good luck!
DeleteI knew she would hook up with the bartender
ReplyDeleteThis short is a "living fossil" animation wise
Good work Neil! (due to the fact that it took 15 years to make, I would say that even if I thought it was bad)
You know, I take "living fossil" as a great compliment! Thanks for writing in, truteal :-)
DeleteIt was Neil
DeleteAmazing job!
ReplyDeleteThank you 'c' !
DeleteNeil!
ReplyDeleteI only just saw this, having only seen clips and the odd still before.
It's amazing, you are mad. And you have mad animation skills.
I love it, well done :)
